Ceramic Substrates & Insulators
Lapped alumina substrates, plates and high-voltage insulators in 99% and 99.7% grades for electronic and electrical equipment.
In electronic and electrical applications the requirement is not wear resistance at all — it is dielectric strength, thermal conductivity, dimensional stability and cleanliness, in a part that is often small and always inspected.
Where it is used
- Thick-film and thin-film substrates for sensors and hybrid circuits
- High-voltage insulators, standoffs, spacers and busbars supports
- Vacuum-process components and feedthrough insulators
- Heater substrates and thermal spreaders
- Laser and optical component mounts
- Wear pads and guides in semiconductor handling equipment

| Al₂O₃ content | 99% | 99.7% |
| Bulk density | 3.85 g/cm³ | 3.90 g/cm³ |
| Apparent porosity | ≤ 0.2% | ≤ 0.1% |
| Dielectric strength | typ. 15 kV/mm | typ. 16 kV/mm |
| Thermal conductivity | typ. 25 W/m·K | typ. 29 W/m·K |
| Flatness, lapped | 0.01 mm / 100 mm | 0.01 mm / 100 mm |
| Surface finish | Ra 0.1 µm | Ra 0.1 µm |
Dielectric and thermal values are typical figures for the grade, not a guarantee for a specific part geometry. Tell us which property is being qualified and we will state it on the certificate.
Post-processing
- Lapping and polishing to controlled flatness and finish
- Laser drilling and scribing of holes and break lines
- Metallisation and brazable coatings on request
- Edge chamfering and radius preparation to reduce chipping
- Cleaning and packaging for clean-room entry
If the part has to meet an insulation test, a flatness callout or a cleanliness specification, tell us the test and the acceptance limit. We will quote to the qualification rather than to a general tolerance.
