Electronics & Semiconductor
Alumina substrates, insulators and vacuum-process components in 99% and 99.7% grades, made and ground to drawing.
In electronics and semiconductor equipment the requirement is not wear resistance at all — it is electrical insulation, dimensional stability, thermal conductivity and cleanliness. Parts are small, tolerances are tight, and a single out-of-spec dimension stops a machine.
How wear actually happens
- Thick-film and thin-film substrates. Flatness and surface finish determine whether the printed pattern holds its tolerance.
- High-voltage insulators. Dielectric strength and creepage distance, in housings that also see thermal cycling.
- Vacuum process parts. Outgassing and purity matter as much as geometry; porosity is not acceptable.
- Wafer handling and plasma equipment. Alumina parts exposed to plasma and to aggressive cleaning chemistry.
- Sensor and detector housings. Hermetic sealing against a ceramic surface requires controlled surface finish.
What we normally supply
- AL-99 / 99.7 substrates, plates and discs, lapped to Ra 0.1 µm
- AL-99.7 insulators, spacers and standoffs to drawing
- AL-99.7 tubes, crucibles and sheaths for vacuum and high-temperature processes
- Metallised and brazable alumina parts on request
- Precision-ground shafts, pins and wear pads for handling equipment
- Laser-drilled and green-machined features to avoid post-firing machining cost
Typical grade and thickness
| Application | Grade | Thickness / size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thick-film substrate | AL-99 | ± 0.02 mm | Flatness 0.01 mm / 100 mm; specify finish by function. |
| Vacuum insulator | AL-99.7 | ± 0.01 mm | Porosity ≤ 0.1% for outgassing control. |
| Precision shaft | AL-99.7 | ± 0.005 mm | Diamond cylindrical grinding; Ra 0.1 µm achievable. |
| Plasma-exposed part | AL-99.7 | by drawing | Tell us the chemistry and we will confirm compatibility. |
Starting points, not rules. The right specification depends on particle size, velocity and impact angle — send us the application and we will size it properly.
