Water & Wastewater
Ceramic-lined pipe, aerators and filter media for abrasive and corrosive municipal and industrial water systems.
Clean water is not abrasive — but almost nothing in a treatment works is clean water. Grit, sand, lime slurry, sludge and screened screenings are all abrasive, and they are usually moving in a chemically aggressive environment that rules out plain steel. Alumina handles both at once.
How wear actually happens
- Grit and sludge lines. Sand and grit in suspension wear through steel elbows first, then fail the whole run.
- Lime and chemical dosing. Lime slurry is abrasive and alkaline; dosing lines fail at bends and at reducers.
- Aeration and mixing. Abrasive solids plus continuous operation, in equipment that is expensive to take out of service.
- Filtration media. Ceramic elements give precise pore control and survive backwashing and chemical cleaning.
- Desalination and brine. Highly corrosive, often hot, with suspended solids in pretreatment stages.
What we normally supply
- AL-99 ceramic-lined pipe, elbows and tees, DN50–DN600
- Porous ceramic discs, plates and tubes for filtration and aeration
- Alumina tiles for channel and tank linings where grit concentrates
- AL-99 grinding media for lime slaking and reagent milling
- Precision ceramic valve and pump wear parts to drawing
- Custom linings for screens and grit classifiers
Typical grade and thickness
| Application | Grade | Thickness / size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grit line elbow | AL-99 | 15–25 mm | Long-radius elbows with full lining; backfilled steel body. |
| Lime slurry line | AL-99 | 10–20 mm | Alkaline plus abrasive — low porosity matters. |
| Filtration element | AL-92 / 99 | 1–100 µm pore | Pore size for the solids; grade for the chemistry. |
| Channel lining | AL-95 | 20–30 mm | Where grit concentrates at the invert. |
