Ceramic & Glass
Contamination-free grinding media and high-temperature ceramics for tile, sanitaryware and glass production.
If you make ceramic or glass, wear parts are not just a maintenance cost — they are a product-quality risk. Iron picked up from steel media changes the colour of a glaze batch; silica from a cheap lining contaminates a technical ceramic body. This is the one industry where the media and lining have to be chosen for what they do not add to the product.
How wear actually happens
- Ball mills and continuous mills. Body and glaze milling, where iron contamination is measured in parts per million and often specified by the customer.
- Attritors and bead mills. Fine and very fine grinding of glaze slips and inks, where bead size determines the particle size distribution.
- Spray dryers and transfer lines. Abrasive slip at temperature, with reliability that matters more than absolute wear rate.
- Kiln furniture and rollers. Thermal cycling at temperature; failure comes from creep and thermal shock, not abrasion.
- Glaze lines and glaze recovery. Abrasion by a suspension containing hard frit particles.
What we normally supply
- AL-99 grinding media, Ø10–60 mm, for iron-free body and glaze milling
- AL-99 / 99.7 micro beads, Ø0.5–10 mm, for bead and sand mills
- AL-99 mill lining bricks with matched mill linings
- AL-99.7 kiln furniture, rollers, plates and setters
- Ceramic-lined pipe and fittings for glaze slip transfer
- Alumina tiles for spray dryer cones and glaze recovery equipment
Typical grade and thickness
| Application | Grade | Thickness / size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Body milling media | AL-99 | Ø30–60 mm | Wear ≤ 0.05 g/kg·h; iron pickup below specification limits. |
| Glaze milling media | AL-99 | Ø10–40 mm | Smaller media for finer grind; watch the mill speed. |
| Bead mill charge | AL-99 | Ø1–3 mm | Tight size distribution keeps the PSD narrow. |
| Kiln roller | AL-99.7 | by drawing | Purity and creep resistance dominate. |
| Glaze slip pipe | AL-99 | 6–15 mm | Smooth bore reduces both wear and settling. |
Starting points, not rules. The right specification depends on particle size, velocity and impact angle — send us the application and we will size it properly.
