Alumina Grinding Balls
Roll-formed and isostatically pressed alumina balls from Ø10 to Ø90 mm for continuous and batch ball mills.
The standard charge for ball mills where the priority is a predictable grind and metal-free product. Available in 92%, 95% and 99% alumina, with the higher grades buying a lower wear rate and a higher bulk density.
Where it is used
- Cement, clinker and raw meal milling
- Mineral and ore grinding in concentrators
- Glaze, body and frit milling in ceramic plants
- Pigment, coating and chemical powder milling
- Battery cathode and anode material milling, where iron pickup is specified
Sizes and grades
| Diameter | Grade | Bulk density | Wear loss | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ø10 – 20 mm | AL-95 / 99 | 3.70 / 3.85 | 0.07 / 0.05 g | Fine grinding, small mills, glaze |
| Ø25 – 40 mm | AL-92 / 95 / 99 | 3.60 – 3.85 | 0.10 – 0.05 g | General purpose, most mills |
| Ø50 – 60 mm | AL-92 / 95 | 3.60 / 3.70 | 0.10 / 0.07 g | Coarse feed, primary milling |
| Ø70 – 90 mm | AL-92 / 95 | 3.60 / 3.70 | 0.10 / 0.07 g | Large mills, hard coarse ore |
Diameter tolerance ± 1.0 mm. Balls are supplied in 25 kg bags, 1,000 kg jumbo bags or steel drums. MOQ 500 kg for stock sizes.
Packaging and shipment
- 25 kg woven bags on pallets — economical for small orders
- 1,000 kg jumbo bags for mills that charge by weight
- Steel drums where the media must stay completely clean
- Container loads palletised and strapped; stuffing plan supplied with the booking
Getting the charge right
Media size should be roughly 20–30 × the feed particle size. Most mills work best with a mixed charge of two or three diameters, adjusted as the feed changes. Send us the mill dimensions, feed size, target fineness and current consumption and we will propose a size mix and a top-up schedule.
Media is priced per tonne but consumed per tonne milled. Ask us to compare grades on consumption rather than on purchase price — a 99% ball typically costs more per tonne and less per tonne ground.
