Factory & Quality

Eleven kilns, cold isostatic presses, CNC diamond grinding and an in-house laboratory that tests every production batch before it ships.

Ceramic is not steel. Two batches made to the same drawing can end up with different density if the pressing pressure or the firing curve drifts by a few percent — and density is what determines wear life. So we test every batch and ship the result with the goods.

How the parts are made

Alumina powder is milled and spray-dried to a controlled particle distribution, then shaped — dry pressed for high-volume flat parts, isostatically pressed where density has to be uniform through a thick section, or extruded for tubes and rods. Green parts are machined where the geometry demands it, then fired on a logged curve to a density above 98% of theoretical. After firing, tight dimensions are produced by diamond grinding rather than by pressing, because sintering shrinkage cannot be held to a grinding tolerance.

Quality control

Incoming material

Every alumina batch is checked for particle size distribution, soda content and moisture before it enters the mill.

In-process

Press pressure, green density and kiln temperature curves are logged per batch and kept against the batch number.

Finished product

Density by Archimedes, apparent porosity, HRA hardness, four-point bending and wear loss on a reference coupon.

Dimensional

CMM and micrometer inspection to the drawing tolerance, recorded on the certificate that ships with the lot.

Certification

Certificate Scope
ISO 9001:2015 Quality management system — certified since 2011.
ISO 14001 Environmental management system.
SGS audited supplier On-site factory audit, verified supplier status.
EN 10204 3.1 Inspection certificate issued against specific orders on request.

Visits and audits

Buyers and third-party inspectors are welcome at the plant. We can arrange a video tour of the pressing and firing lines within a few days’ notice, and full on-site audits with a little more. Tell us which certificate body you use and we will have the documentation ready.
