Automotive & Battery
Metal-free milling and slurry handling for electrode materials, pigments and battery chemicals.
Battery materials have a purity specification, and that specification is where ceramic wear parts earn their place. Milling cathode or anode material with steel media adds iron to the product — which in a battery is a defect, not a wear cost. The same logic applies to pigments, coatings and any powder where a metal contamination limit is written into the purchase specification.
How wear actually happens
- Electrode material milling. Iron contamination has to stay below ppm levels, which rules out steel media regardless of wear rate.
- Slurry preparation and transfer. Cathode slurries are abrasive and often viscous; pumping and lines wear quickly at bends and in valves.
- Coating and drying equipment. Abrasive slurry through narrow passages, in equipment where a shutdown stops the whole line.
- Pigment and coating milling. Colour purity plus abrasion — the same contamination argument, a different industry.
- Powder handling and dosing. Fine abrasive powders worn through chutes, cyclones and small precision parts.
What we normally supply
- AL-99 / 99.7 grinding media, Ø0.5–20 mm, for bead and attritor mills
- AL-99 ceramic-lined pipe, elbows and fittings for slurry transfer
- AL-99.7 precision parts for pumps, valves and dosing equipment
- Porous ceramic elements for slurry filtration and gas distribution
- Alumina tiles and wear plates for hoppers and chutes
- Contamination statements with ppm-level iron pickup data
Typical grade and thickness
| Application | Grade | Thickness / size | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cathode material milling | AL-99 / 99.7 | Ø0.5–3 mm | Tight bead size distribution; iron pickup data supplied. |
| Slurry transfer line | AL-99 | 10–20 mm | Viscous and abrasive — check the bore for settling. |
| Pump wear part | AL-99.7 | ± 0.005 mm | Ground to drawing; sealing face finish to Ra 0.1 µm. |
| Powder chute | AL-95 | 20–30 mm | Impact is low; abrasion is fine and continuous. |
